Eastbourne Primary School’s Inclusive Playground

Eastbourne Primary School is pleased to announce that construction of our new Inclusive Playground is due to begin in mid June.

Eastbourne was the first school on the Mornington Peninsula to successfully secure funding under the 'Inclusive Schools Fund', an initiative of the Victorian state government.

The Inclusive Schools Fund is a $20 million fund over four years, established to help Victorian government schools implement innovative projects that promote best practice inclusive school environments and support the educational and social needs of children and young people with disabilities.

Funding is intended to:

  • Increase participation and improve learning outcomes for students with disabilities through strengthening and developing inclusive government school environments.
  • Promote inclusion in classroom organisation and teaching approaches that tailor to the needs of all learners on the same basis, including those with disabilities.
  • Create innovative school environments based on ¬†inclusive best practice and Universal Design for all schools to consider in facility planning and design for students with disabilities.

Schools are encouraged to come up with innovative projects based on their existing facilities and the needs of students with disabilities attending their school. The value of projects is expected to be up to $200,000.

Eastbourne Primary School was successful in securing $181,000. This funding is being used to construct a playground and sensory garden that will incorporate tactile objects, a water feature and new play equipment. The new playground will adhere to the Disability Standards for Education  which seek to ensure that students with disability can access and participate in education on the same basis as other students.
